How Do I Know If I’m Saved?

It’s a common question for many people: “How do I know if I’m saved?”

The short and simple answer is this: if you confess Christ Jesus as Lord and Savior and you place your complete faith in His finished works of His death and resurrection, then you shall be saved.” But let’s dig a little deeper to understand the depth beyond this surface. What does GOD’s Word say about you being saved?

  • Do you acknowledge that you are sinful?
    (Genesis 6:5; Psalm 51:5; Ecclesiastes 7:20; Isaiah 53:6; 64:6; Romans 3:10-23; Ephesians 2:3; 1John 1:8-10)
  • Do you truly desire to repent from your sins and live a righteous life?
    (Lamentations 3:40; Matthew 3:8; Luke 15:7; Acts 3:19; 17:30; Romans 2:4 // Psalm 1:6; 51:10; 106:3; Proverbs 12:28; Micah 6:8; 2Timothy 2:22)
  • Do you confess that you need a Savior because you are sinful and unable to save yourself?
    (Ephesians 2:1,8-9; 1Corinthians 15:12-19)
  • Do you believe that Christ Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit through the virgin, Mary?
    (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:26-38)
  • Do you believe that Christ Jesus lived a completely sinless life?
    (2Corinthians 5:21; Hebrews 4:15; 1Peter 2:22; 1John 3:5)
  • Do you believe Christ Jesus willingly sacrificed Himself for us, was crucified on the cross, and died a physical death?
    (Psalm 22; Isaiah 53; Daniel 9:26; Zechariah 12:10; Matthew 27:26; Mark 15:25,44-45; John 10:17-18; 19:33)
  • Do you believe Christ Jesus resurrected three days later, thereby proving Himself to be Lord and Savior?
    (Matthew 28:1-10; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-12; John 20; 1Corinthians 15:4-8)
  • Do you believe Christ Jesus is the second person in the Trinity?
    (Exodus 3:14; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1,14; 5:18; 8:58; 10:30; 20:28; Philippians 2:5-6; Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3,10; Titus 2:13; 2Peter 1:1; Revelation 1:8; 22:12-13,16,20)
  • Are you willing to confess with your mouth that Christ Jesus is Lord and Savior?
    (Romans 10:9-10)
  • Are you willing to place your trust in Christ Jesus’ finished work for your eternity?
    (John 3:16-18; 19:30)

If you answered yes to all those questions, then I have no reason to doubt your salvation and neither do you. But of course, your salvation is based off your genuine relationship with the Lord.

(Ephesians 2:8-9)
For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

*Clarification: Being saved by grace does not mean we are exempt from works, it simply means that none of our works is what brings us into salvation. We cannot earn our salvation by our works; however, if our faith is genuine, works will naturally flow out from us just as a good tree naturally produces good fruit. Therefore, how does one get saved? Faith in Christ Jesus. But then what will your faith naturally lead you to do after being saved? If you’d like to examine the depth beyond the surface of what it means to be saved, as it turns out, I wrote an article on that (Picture Scripture: “Saved”).
